Given this event is limited to 5,000 riders, the route is less crowded than the larger London to Brighton bike rides. In our opinion, the lower numbers arguably make for a safer ride.
The 54 mile route starts on Clapham Common and travels through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath. Riders will have to climb the infamous Ditchling Beacon (814 feet above sea level) before a long descent into Brighton. The finish line is in front of Brighton Pier.
Open to all cyclists from the age of 16 upwards, the London to Brighton bike ride is the perfect event for families, aspiring cyclists or corporate teams.
Thousands of people take part in charity cycle rides every year, many of them for the first time. The 'average' person can certainly take part although you WILL need to train to safely complete the course. We give you a sample training plan, get in touch to request one.
Cycling for over 50 miles means that it's not only you that has to be in good shape, the bicycle you ride does too! It's sensible to have your bike serviced before the ride and make sure you carry some spare inner tubes, tyre levers and a pump. A helmet and a pair of gloves are also essential items.
Registration costs £40 per person which includes a buffet lunch, a finisher's medal, water stations, bike mechanics, event marshalls and entry into our 'After-Party' on the beach!
Yes. As there is an additional cost to Bike 4 Cancer for you to ride in this event (on top of the £40 registration fee), we ask you to raise a minimum sponsorship fund of £150 to take part.
To take part in our ride, we ask that you to collect a minimum of £150 in sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues. Once registered (link), we will set up a fundraising page for you on www.bike4cancer.org and send you the link. Via the Bike 4 Cancer website, we pay just 2.24% in fees compared to 5% via sites like Justgiving.
You shouldn't find it difficult to raise £100 - after all you don't cycle 50+ miles every day do you?!?! One top tip is to ask employers to match everything you raise Pound for Pound.
To take part in the ride, register online by clicking here! You can register up to five people at a time via this link. Given rider numbers are strictly limited to 6,000, please book early to avoid disappointment.
Riders leave in staggered groups between 06:30 and 09:30. Due to the modest number of riders (6,000), there is no need to reserve a departure slot. The Bike 4 Cancer trustees will leave Clapham at 0900 - why not ride with us!
No, we do not provide t-shirts. However, our London to Brighton riders can buy a Bike 4 Cancer cycling jersey for £27 including postage (usually £39). Find out more here

The 56 mile route is mostly on quiet minor roads with very little road traffic. Ditchling Beacon will be closed to traffic as will Madeira Drive in Brighton which is where the finish line is. Marshalls will help to control key junctions as required during the route.
Most people are met at the finish line by cheering friends and relatives who then take then take you home afterwards. Southern Trains will not allow bikes on trains leaving Brighton on the afternoon of the ride. A coach service will be taking cyclists and their bikes back to Clapham Common costing £25. Call 0207 424 5522 to reserve your place. Coaches start at 12pm with the last bus at 5pm. Alternatively, stay overnight in Brighton!
